The BCS girls captured the 2009 WIAA 1A Track & Field
championship. That may be the lead story, but the day was
filled with sub-plots and surprises. Saturday was the day of
event finals so everyone who competed knew that they would be a
"State Medalist." Only the place number on the medal and
the color of the ribbon was in doubt. That is, all but
senior Stephanie Miller who had her Discus finals on Saturday
and Aaron Iseman who had the Long Jump. Stephanie came up
big with a 3rd place throw of 118'-1". And Aaron captured
his third State medal in the Long Jump, taking 5th.
All five BCS relays ran in their finals, and the BCS
boys 4x100m team not only captured the blue ribbon but broke the
BCS school record with their 43.66 second circuit of the track.
See the video below! And in the closest race of the entire
meet, senior Terra Oldham fell in the hurdles at State for her
third time in three years, but the third time was the charm as
her fall came one step after the finish line in a photo finish
that earned her the title State 300m Hurdle Champion with a
46.86 time. Sister Bree was only one step behind her in
third place with a time of 47.19.
Mackenzie Altig finished 6th in the Triple Jump and 3rd
in the 100m Hurdles. And Andrew Van Ness added a 6th place
medal in the 3200m to his 1600m 7th of the day before.
Kyle Fremd took 3rd in the 400m (50.44) and 4th in the 200m
(23.08), to go with his 1st and 5th place relay ribbons.
And perhaps the biggest surprise of the day was the the 4th
place team trophy earned by the Viking boys to ice the cake the
ladies had baked. It was an amazing day. Enjoy it
